Robert Pearl, M.D.

CEO, The Permanente Medical Group

Dr. Pearl served as the CEO of The Permanente Medical Group (Kaiser Permanente) for the past 18 years and President and CEO of the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group for the past seven. In these roles, he was responsible for the medical care provided by more than 10,000 physicians and 35,000 staff members to five million Kaiser Permanente members in the states of California, Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Dr. Pearl is a Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at Stanford University. He is board certified in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and is also on the faculty of the Stanford Graduate School of Business where he teaches courses on strategy and leadership, as well as lecturing on health care technology.

Session 6: A Health Care Debate Moderated by Intelligence Squared

America's premier debate series, Intelligence Squared U.S., will take the main stage at Transform to debate the motion "The U.S. Health Care System is Terminally Broken." The Transform audience will vote to declare a winner of the debate, which will be streamed online and recorded live for national television and radio broadcast. Intelligence Squared U.S. is a non-partisan, non-profit organization founded to restore critical thinking, facts, reason, and civility to American public discourse.
