Ravenna Raven

Listener Poet, Poets in Residence

Ravenna Raven is a listener poet with the nonprofit Poets in Residence. She spent her childhood reading and writing stories in a 250-year-old farmhouse in Hunterdon County, N.J. She moved to Washington, D.C. to attend George Washington University and earned a B.A. in literature and creative writing. She went on to graduate with an MFA in poetry from the University of Maryland, where she had also begun teaching academic and creative writing workshops. In 2018 she completed the 200-hour yoga teacher training course with her local studio, certified by Yoga Alliance.

Throughout her time in the D.C. metro area, Ravenna has taught writing, reading development, and yoga to students of all ages, from elementary-aged youths to adults. She loves memorizing and reciting poems, to the point where her students finally bestowed upon her the coveted nickname: “The Poem Encyclopedia.”
