Kathleen Brandenburg

Founder and Chief Design Strategy Officer, IA Collaborative

Selected by Fast Company as one of the 50 Most Influential Designers in America, Kathleen has been named a “Creative Maverick” for her work in leading research and strategy at global design and innovation consultancy IA Collaborative, which she founded in 1999 with a dedicated “design for healthcare” practice. Kathleen co-developed the company’s 7 Elements of Design Innovation™ process that has uncovered unexpected opportunities for innovation and driven record success for the world’s largest brands, including Johnson & Johnson, AbbVie, Samsung, FedEx, GE and Nike.

Whether scrubbing in for surgery as a means to reinvent Johnson & Johnson’s patient experience, running with athletes to uncover design opportunities for Nike wearables, or employing a design approach to establish a new organizational structure and business strategy for one of India’s largest conglomerates, Kathleen and the team at IA Collaborative believe that true innovation starts with “living the problem to design the solution.”
