John Poe is chair of Quality and Affordability for Mayo Clinic on a system level. In this leadership role, Poe oversees and implements the strategic planning and operations for Mayo Clinic’s clinical quality outcomes, quality data management, performance improvement, patient safety, employee safety, patient experience, accreditation and regulatory compliance, and practice redesign. Poe is co-secretary of the Mayo Clinic Quality Subcommittee, a director for Charter House, member of Mayo Clinic Clinical Practice Committee, member of the Midwest Hospital Practice Subcommittee, Mayo Clinic Midwest Clinical Practice committee, Mayo Clinic Executive Operations Team, Mayo Clinic Hospital Practice Subcommittee, Midwest Clinical Practice Quality Oversight Subcommittee, secretary of Practice Optimization and Acceleration Subcommittee, and councilor for Officers & Councilors of Staff.
Prior to joining Mayo Clinic in the fall of 1999, Poe was the director of Physician Practice Management at Lovelace Health Systems of New Mexico. In this position, he was the administrative partner to the chief medical officer overseeing a 350 provider group. Lovelace Health Systems was a multi-specialty integrated practice.
His career includes serving as management accountant, clinical practice administrator, business plan leader, revenue cycle manager, graduate medical education administrator, and designated administrative officer for Graduate Medical Education, division chair for Shared Services, and most recently the chair of Quality and Affordability at Mayo Clinic.
Poe completed his Bachelor of Business Administration degree at the University of New Mexico with an emphasis in accounting. Poe received his Master of Business Administration degree at the University of New Mexico. He is certified in project management from Stanford University and is a Silver Quality fellow of Mayo Clinic’s Quality Academy.
