Gina Jiang, M.D., is the co-founder and chief executive officer of Design Thinking Foundry (丰聚醫創), a social enterprise that puts patient experience design at the center of medical technology and innovation. Based in Taipei, Taiwan, DTFoundry combines design thinking, evidence-based medicine, and technology integration to work directly with stakeholders towards dignified care, specifically in the Greater China Region. In 2017, Dr. Jiang led the establishment of a unique culturally-attentive, patient-experience innovation center in a new university hospital in Taipei, motivating patients, clinicians, nurses, hospital administrators, industry partners to challenge traditional hospital culture, and to innovate together toward what matters. In addition, Dr. Jiang is frequently invited to speak at medical, engineering, and design conferences in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China, and has facilitated many discussions with local health care and health tech leaders to brainstorm problem-solving strategies.
Dr. Jiang is an interdisciplinary and multicultural medical entrepreneur. Born in Taipei and having grown up in Taiwan, USA, and Canada, she always wondered how medicine evolves with humanity. She received a bachelor degree in math and psychology from the University of Toronto, and a medical degree from Peking University. She was previously a research fellow in cartilage tissue engineering at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, and more recently a biomedical fellow at Stanford School of Medicine, where she was trained in translational medical technology, biodesign, and sustainable innovative strategies. She is in an unparalleled position to bridge divides. In her spare time, Dr. Jiang draws cartoons. She joined the growing international graphic medicine community and is collaborating with the National Taiwan Suicide Prevention Center to apply graphic narratives to depression screening.
