Nearly three years after his life-altering facial transplant surgery, Mayo Clinic patient Andy Sandness will share his personal mental health journey during a special Mayo Clinic Transform 2019 discussion.
During this session, Andy will discuss his personal experience navigating the confusion and stigma related to mental health, the impact of his devastating self-inflicted gunshot wound, recovery from an intense and complex 50+ hour facial surgery, and how his dedication to impact others struggling with mental health issues is increasing awareness and transforming health care delivery.
This authentic personal story will challenge your presumptions and change the way you think about mental health. Andy will also be joined during the session by his surgical care team leader Samir Mardini, M.D. and psychiatrist Sheila Jowsey-Gregoire, M.D.
